The Scarab beetle was considered to be the personification of the god Khepri. He was a sun god that was connected with resurrection. The insect itself pushes around a ball of dung with its babies inside. The Egyptians observed this natural phenomenon and associated the round ball of dung with the ball of the sun and so Khepri was born. The `Key of Lifeż sign or Ankh, as it was referred to by the Ancient Egyptians, was a symbol of eternal life. This was often passed down from the gods to the King.
